Helen Keller said although disability was inconvenient, it did not mean unhappiness, and that it was society that was making the physically challenged unhappy.

Work from Conference [人事5-CSR・健康経営・人事部・労務]
The agenda of the conference that I receive from the invitation like "How to build a strong team in this complex world?" from various institues always attracts me.
However, it is difficult to get a good insight about that theme in the most of the case. Some of the speeches or panel discussions are really boring. The panelists do often not reply the right answer for the question from the audience.
So I stop to listen and do "work form conference" blaming myself saying "why did I choose to attend this conference?".
Actually I'm writing this article in the conference ballroom.
But some key words like "diversity, glbalization, digital world and Gene-Y" stimulate my brain to think about that subject. This also encourages my work from conference.
Now I can figure out what is the real role of the conference like HR summit or management conference. This plays a "catalysit". I shouldn't try to get the answer or the solution. The conference gives me a time to think about the particular subject which I have chosen.
If the contents of the speech or panel discussion are very useful or eye-opening, your knowledge of that topic in the conference is very little. You should read more books about this topics before you spend a lot of money to attend.
So if you want to think about something by yourself, please go to the conference so that you can spend a fruitful time.

Why We Hate HR
http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/97/open_hr.html?page=0%2C0
A story in an excellent company...
A man ,who doesn't know the face of CEO, entered in to the CEO office where CEO,CFO and CHO were talking about the current business situation. He couldn't identify who is the CEO by listening their converation.
Likewise, any senior executives should know the business situation well no matter what kind of business responsibilities -business function or support function- they have.
I put my thought of this topics in "Generalist vs Specialist" ; http://nasser.blog.so-net.ne.jp/2012-06-28
Specially HR executives. If they believe that the human resource is the greatest asset in the company, they should know what they are doing and who they are.
It's a common sense that a business unit head should know his products and market well to make the business strategy.
HR team also have to understand their position. They may think they are connector between employees and CEO - maybe more employee side-. The employees, however, will not tell much about themselves and you because they scare HR department which is powerful as CEO.
So the most important point for HR people is to know the employees well and know the business through them by using their high competent skill - interpersonal communication skill-so that HR can make the strategy to impact on the business. Then the door of CEO will open...
Go Green Day !
Today is the "Go Green Day" in our company. It’s also the “Car Free Day” as we are encouraged to take public transport, “Car Pool” with colleagues, walk, run or roller skate to and from work to show our Eco friendliness.
My cycling buddies suggested that we go on bike as it’s also a good opportunity for our training - killing two birds with one stone. As we covered a much longer route (around 35km), we had to get up very early in order to be on time for work.
It was a nice experience to bike on the highway. I think that it is not allowed in Japan. very exciting. Our speed is over 35km/h.
Then I had a very looooong day. so exhaused...
I shouldn't use all my energy in the morning.
Today we should save energy....
BYOD - Bring Your Own Device
When we talk about WLB-Work Life Balance, I think that it is crucial to control the on and off time of your work. We should have some kind of switch to do so. When you want to be relax at home, you should forget about your work so that you will be able to balance your work and your life.http://nasser.blog.so-net.ne.jp/2012-03-25
Is it applicable for the youth?
Today,I had an interesting talk with youth. They gave me some idea about BYOD, which stands for "Bring Your Own Device" idea. Employees can use their own favorite devices for their work so that they can use these devices anywhere and anytime. The youth support this and feel empowerment.I heard that some companies such as P&G have introduced this idea.
Can they be relax in this circumstances?
I have started to be convinced that Generation C or digital native might can manage this sirtuation as my generation used to study at home listening radio or music at midnight. Our parents didin't understand how we could concentrate into study in such a noisy situation at that time.
If this is true, we should consider this way, which will motivate the youth.
What do you think?
Work Life Balance [人事5-CSR・健康経営・人事部・労務]
WLB(Work Life Balance) is like a “Serotonin (Monoamine neurotransmitters)” effect, which let us not memorise everything by controlling the Cerebral cortex. So if you have enough Serotonin, you can control your stress well. Likewise If you have good WLB strategy, your staff can enjoy the life not worrying their work at home.
When you go back to home after work, you don't need think about your work at home. However if you cannot switch your mode well, you tend to continue to think about your work unconsciously and cannot relax well.
So it is advisable to have some fun after the work to switch from working mode to fun mode like playing with your kids or doing some hobbies but not simply watching DVD with a glass of wine.
Companies can provide some hobby club to enjoy for an hour before going back to home, for instance photo club, ruuning club or bowling club. This will support to switch your mode to fun one. Week end recreation or sports event might accelerate this.
Of cource you can do this without company support, however it is easier to enjoy with colleagues rather than yourself alone.
On the contrary , when your kid get sick or you have some family issue at home, you cannot concentrate your work at office and your productivity goes down.
Companies can provide some flexi work scheme like flex work time or work from home etc so that you can adjust your time well.
There are some misunderstanding about WLB. Employees will think WLB is a benefit as the understanding of "Work is bad and Life is good" while Management will think WLB is reducing work hours. But in fact WLB strategy is to stimulate work efficiency and creativity and make working life more interesting.
In order to execute WLB strategy successfully, the senior management have to show their good balance of Work and Life. If they manage their WLB well and become productive and creative, their staff will follow.

Does Running make you innovative?
When I run, I often get some new idea.
According to Dr Kisou Kubota - Kyoto University, running stimulates a brain ,specially prefrontal lobe. The frontal lobe contains most of the dopamine-sensitive neurons in the cerebral cortex. The dopamine system is associated with reward, attention, short-term memory tasks, planning, and drive.
Walking Walking Running
(@3km/h) (@5km/h) (@9km/h)
Running can make you brainier according to a new study in Japan. Researchers monitored seven people who ran for 30 minutes three times a week over a period of 3 months. The group took complex memory tests before and after. All the runners did much better on the tests after the exercise, although their mental performance dropped off after they stopped training. Dr Kisou Kubota says, 'This suggests that ongoing exercise is required to maintain the benefit.' It's thought that running helps by encouraging a healthy flow of blood and oxygen. Scientists hope the findings could one day help cure memory problems.

Johannesburug - Are you happy?
I had a chance to do customer house visit in Johannesburg today. I know the black people also are purchasing our products. I, however, didn't imagine the people who are living at such slum are our customers.
The young taxi driver is living with his loved wife, kid and mother in a small hand made barracks. He was attracted by our high end home theater system in the shop. And he started to save the money covering the down payment of 36 month installment for six months.
Now whole family are very happy enjoying the music in the tiny house. Yes, for them Music is as important as Water. I was also happy to see their happy faces because we could contribute it in a sense.
I didn't see the sad faces in this town. It reminds me that South Africa is the world 4th happiest country according to Coca Cola happiness barometer survey.http://nasser.blog.so-net.ne.jp/2010-06-05-3
The survey shows that real world contact with family and partners is a greater source of joy than virtual world alternatives. Yes! they don't need iPad but back ground music for their conversation.

A Combination of Generic Strategies
- Stuck in the Middle?
These generic strategies are not necessarily compatible with one another. If a firm attempts to achieve an advantage on all fronts, in this attempt it may achieve no advantage at all. For example, if a firm differentiates itself by supplying very high quality products, it risks undermining that quality if it seeks to become a cost leader. Even if the quality did not suffer, the firm would risk projecting a confusing image. For this reason, Michael Porter argued that to be successful over the long-term, a firm must select only one of these three generic strategies. Otherwise, with more than one single generic strategy the firm will be "stuck in the middle" and will not achieve a competitive advantage.
The Big Idea: Creating Shared Value
A growing number of companies known for their hard-nosed approach to business—such as GE, Google, IBM, Intel, Johnson & Johnson, Nestlé, Unilever, and Wal-Mart—have already embarked on important efforts to create shared value by reconceiving the intersection between society and corporate performance. Yet our recognition of the transformative power of shared value is still in its genesis. Realizing it will require leaders and managers to develop new skills and knowledge—such as a far deeper appreciation of societal needs, a greater understanding of the true bases of company productivity, and the ability to collaborate across profit/nonprofit boundaries. And government must learn how to regulate in ways that enable shared value rather than work against it.

Water for Life [人事5-CSR・健康経営・人事部・労務]
We had the CSR (Coporate Social Responsibility) event inviting Dr.Amy Khor, Minister of Sate,Ministry of Enviroment and Water resources and PUB.
The following is my speech
As most of you already know, a massive earthquake and tsunami struck Japan last Friday, causing huge destruction and loss of lives. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with everyone who is affected by this tragedy. Rest assured that we will do everything we can to help them through these very difficult times.
As the recent disasters show, nature is extremely fragile. As such, we need to do our part in conserving the natural environment. It is with this purpose in mind that we are gathered here this morning to join hands in building rain gardens as part of our annual environmental community programme, Water for Life.
I personally find rain gardens very interesting as they are multi-functional, being able to perform many tasks. They not only help to remove pollution before it enters our waterways, but they also absorb rain to help to prevent flooding. In addition, they also provide beautiful flora and fauna for the surrounding environment. All this certainly makes rain gardens a great option for water conservation in this Garden City.
Last year, I remember fondly how much fun we had working together to create floating wetlands, and then setting them afloat at Pandan Reservoir. As I jog along this Reservoir in the evenings with some of our employees, I can still see the floating wetlands thriving after a year. We believe water conservation is the key to ensuring a sustainable water supply and these activities help to reinforce the importance of keeping our waterways and water sources clean.
Water conservation is a very important issue for us. We are also committed to working towards creating a sustainable society for the next generation. As a responsible corporate citizen, we believe it is essential to play a key role in creating a better society and helping to preserve the natural environment for the future.
I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere thanks to everyone here for your strong participation. I hope everyone will have fun today working hand-in-hand and building a greener and more sustainable future.
Thank you.
From Wikipedia
Water supply and sanitation in Singapore is characterized by a number of achievements in the challenging environment of a densely populated island. Access to water is universal, affordable, efficient and of high quality. Innovative integrated water management approaches such as the reuse of reclaimed water, the establishment of protected areas in urban rainwater catchments and the use of estuaries as freshwater reservoirs have been introduced along with seawater desalination in order to reduce the country's dependence on imported water. In 2007 Singapore's water and sanitation utility, the Public Utilities Board (PUB), received the Stockholm Industry Water Award for its holistic approach to water resources management. In 2005 it opened its first desalination plant. By the time the long-term water supply agreement with Malaysia expires in 2061, Singapore wants to be self-sufficient in terms of water supply, with reclaimed water meeting 50% and desalination 30% of its needs in addition to the 20% supplied by internal catchments.

1)Marketing the Mission to the Consumers
2)Marketing the Values to the Employees
3)Marketing the Values to the Channel Partners
Vision to the Shareholders
