The Three Stonecutters

   The following is Peter Dracker's version of " The Three Stonecutters" story.

   Once upon a time, there was a traveler who came upon three individuals working with stone. Curious as to what the workers were doing with the stones, the traveler approached the first worker and asked, “What are you doing with these stones?” Grumpily and without hesitation the worker quickly responded, “I am a stonecutter and I am cutting stones I am trying to make enough money to support my family.” 

  Not satisfied with this answer, the traveler approached the second worker and asked, “What are you doing with these stones?” The second worker paused for a moment, sighed, but smiled a little and then explained proudly, “I am cutting this block of stone to make sure that it’s square, and its dimensions are uniform, so that it will fit exactly in its place in a wall.I am doing the best job of stone cutting in the entire country."

   Having two different answers to the same question, the traveler made his way to the third worker and asked, “What are you doing with these stones?” The third worker stopped what he was doing, bringing his chisel to his side. He looked at the traveler with a beaming smile on his face and declared, “I am a stonecutter and I am building a cathedral to the glory of God”.

  The first stonecutter knew what he wanted to get from his work, and was doing so. He was giving a fair day's work for a fair day's pay. The third stonecutter obviously had a positive attitude to his work, perhaps because he saw the bigger picture.

  But what about the second stonecutter? Drucker suggested this was a potential problem area, perhaps the opposite of the third stonecutter's view of the bigger picture. Here was someone focusing on his own narrow view of work. If the building which they were making is not a cathedral but a gambling house. what would he do - stop cutting the stone or continue ?

  People should work to contribute the society. In order to do so, they will take a part of their expert job to complete the organization mission.

  People shoud think this all the time so that they can upgrade their expertise more. Thus they can take a bigger part of the whole mission.

  If they are focusing on their expertise only and keep changing the organization in order to upgrade their skill, they can be the best stonecutter but don't deliver any contribution to the society because the contribution to the society is not in thier minds.

  So the important point is to understand what you are making ,is it a chathdral or a gambling house?  You have to decide what you want to make then you use your expertise. In order to make better chathedarl, you should skill up or upgrade your expertise.

　This is one of my favourite books. I read again because I had a chance to have the original version. Uhhm,very inspring me again. How do you live if you were back 25 years ago knowing all your coming 25 years life?

 After reading this book, I always think about how to live if I were back from my 25 years later time,which is 78 years old. I try to guess the life of my 70's time talking ,asking and checking with my relatives who have already come to this age.

 Maybe I have to strengthen my body at least, then my expertise,,.

 This is also in line with the Buddism ( we will reborn ).

　　今日で53歳になりました。カミさんと義妹と夕食にいき、ガラにもなく誕生ケーキをレストランからプレゼントされました。部下の数人からもメールをもらったりして素直にうれしかったですね。一年一年年輪を増やしていくような人生にしたいです。

50歳

　　今日で50歳になってしまいました。ちょっと複雑ですね。50年というと一世紀の半分です。すごく長く生きたような気がします。気持ち的には、20，30歳の時とあまり変わりませんが、「気が若い」というのは、いいのか、成長していないのかなどと考えてしまいます。江戸時代だったら、もう寿命がくる年代です。

　　にいちゃんの頃よりは、世の中のこと、人のことに少しは気づいているかなとは思いますが、まだまだ、人間として完璧には、ほど遠いなと思います。じゃあ、人間として、完璧はどうなんだというと、その理想像も自分の確立していないのが本音です。

　　10年ほど前に、「生きるとは何か？」と真剣に考えたことがありました。http://blog.so-net.ne.jp/nasser/1999-01-18　「自己実現の欲求をみたす」というのが答えで、これは、なれる可能性のある最高の存在になりたい願望をもつということです。つまり、他人と自分との間に境がなく、心の命ずるままに行動して、気がついてみたら、世のため人のためになっているといったことです。そして、こういうレベルの高い快感（至高体験というのだそうですが）は、高級脳が刺激されるので、その抑制物質はでないということです。

　　あれから、10年たち、そういうふうに生きようと思ったのですが、いろんな邪念に邪魔されることがよくあり、まだその境地には達していません。

　　今日を境にまた、高級脳が刺激されるような生き方をしないといけませんね。走りながら、頑張ろうと思います。

　　ひさしぶりに読み返しましたが、面白いですね。昔にもどるというありふれたストーリーなんですが、展開がうまく、どんどん引き込まれます。そして、考えさせられる話です。

　　もう一度、昔に戻ったら、どういうふうに生きますか？という話で、そういうふうに、今を、大事に生きなさいと言うことです。

　　この本は、絶対よんだほうがいいと思います。お勧めです！

「五千回の生死」

以前購入してそのままになっていた本を読んでみました。この本を購入した動機は忘れてしまいましたが、きっとタイトルに惹かれたからでしょう。この本は、９つの短編で構成されており、そのうちのひとつが表題の作品です。表題の作品が一番おもしろく、話の展開も意外性のあるものでした。

本書紹介文から
「一日に五千回ぐらい、死にとうなったり、生きとうなったりする」男との束の間の奇妙な友情（表題作）。トマトを欲しながら死んでいった労務者から預かった、一通の手紙の行

感想
　長女から「読んでみたら？」って手渡された本です。著者は、よくテレビに出る人ですね。この手の本は女性は大好きですね。ようは、「ポジティブシンキングでいこう」ということですよね。大半は既に実行していました。
